Physical therapy assistants in Florida are required to obtain licensure and complete continuing education requirements. In order to be eligible for the licensure examination, individuals must graduate with a physical therapy assistant associate's degree. The Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) accredits physical therapy assistant programs and ensures graduates are prepared for licensure. Students can find numerous schools in Florida that will provide them with the knowledge and skills to work in the field.
Broward College is located in Fort Lauderdale and offers a 74-credit physical therapist assistant associate's degree program. The program can be completed in five semesters and consists of physical therapy courses, lab work and clinical practicums. Courses teach students about therapeutic procedures, therapeutic communication, neurological and musculoskeletal defects, rehabilitative procedures and applied kinesiology.
Daytona State College
Located in Daytona Beach, Daytona State College features a physical therapist assistant associate's degree program that can be completed in 74 credit hours. Students take three courses and labs in therapeutic exercise and two courses and labs in modalities. Additional courses include kinesiology, patient care, pathology, neuroscience and rehabilitation skills. Three practicums and a seminar are also part of the program.
Florida State College at Jacksonville
The Associate in Science in Physical Therapy Assistant program at Florida State College at Jacksonville is 74 credits and includes general education requirements, lectures, laboratory work and clinical education components. Students take courses in patient care, physical therapy trends, therapeutic exercise, musculoskeletal and neuromuscular physical therapy, pathological conditions and cardiopulmonary physical therapy.
Indian River State College
Indian River State College is located in Fort Pierce and offers a physical therapist associate's degree program.
