Program Description:

Capella University's PhD in Industrial and Organizational Psychology program offers students the opportunity to study human development from infancy through adulthood; social psychology; models of human thought and behavior, including cognitive science, neuroscience, consciousness, perception, reasoning, problem solving, intelligence, language development, and creativity; and ethical issues of ethnicity, gender, and socioeconomic status for the psychology professional. Coursework covers qualitative analysis, advanced inferential statistics, advanced research methods, and various intelligence, personality, and special aptitude tests and measurements. Students can examine theories of industrial and organizational psychology; leadership theories and their applications in clinical, educational, organizational, and counseling settings; consultation theories and the role of the psychological consultant; and psychological theories and applications in relation to human resource management. Students can learn about individual, group, and organizational assessment and evaluation tools and techniques; evidence-based coaching theories; and psychometric testing. Students can choose one of the following areas of concentration: industrial psychology, organizational psychology, coaching psychology, and consultation psychology.
