Program Description:

Grand Canyon University's Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with an Emphasis in Math program offers coursework in mathematics for elementary teachers. The program covers algebra, trigonometry, and geometry in addition to methods of elementary curriculum development and delivery in math, science, literacy, language, and social studies. Program participants also have the opportunity to learn about teaching gifted students, behavioral and cognitive approaches to learning and teaching, the utilization of modern technologies to generate collaboration and interaction within the classroom, classroom engagement and management techniques, and how to manage student behavior through and an effective disciplinary plan. The program is designed to prepare students for certification in the state of Arizona and requires over 100 hours of observation and practicum, as well as a 16-week student teaching element. Students who intend to teach in a state other than Arizona should check with that state's department of education for certification requirements.
