Program Prerequisites:

Applicants to the University of Phoenix Gerontology Health Care Certificate program should have a bachelor's degree with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 on the undergraduate degree posted transcript. Students must also have a minimum of one year of full-time post high school work experience or volunteer experience with exposure to organizational systems and management processes and be currently employed in a suitable health/health-related environment or have access to a suitable health/health-related work environment for the completion of course assignments. Interested individuals may also have experience in the field or may seek to gain knowledge of gerontological health-care programs, issues, and trends.

Program Description:

The Gerontology Health Care Certificate curriculum is designed to teach students about mental and physical health and disability issues affecting aging populations. Program participants have the chance to study political, economic, societal, and cultural aspects of aging. Additionally, the curriculum is intended to teach students how to develop and coordinate gerontological wellness programs. Addressed topics include national demographics, public policy, elderly care needs, disease prevention, and retirement.
