Before beginning the University of Phoenix Master of Science in Counseling/School Counseling program, students may have an interest in counseling or human services. Applicants should have already earned a bachelor's degree, a minimum equivalent of three (3) years of full-time, post-high school work experience with direct exposure to human services, human resources, primary, secondary or higher education, or organizational systems and associated management processes, and must be currently employed or have access to a suitable work environment.
Students enrolled in the University of Phoenix Master of Science in Counseling/School Counseling program have the opportunity to learn about group and individual counseling, patient evaluation, and career planning. The program includes opportunities for supervised clinical experience; students who complete all clinical experience requirements may be eligible for state licensure as school counselors. Students also learn about general counseling topics, such as family development, counseling ethics, and clinical assessment.
