Project Management Certificate Programs in Indiana

Project management certificate programs are sometimes designed to prepare students to sit for one of the Project Management Institute's (PMI) official certification exams. PMI certifications are globally accredited, can be transferred across national borders and are usually obtained by passing a comprehensive examination. The most common certifications pursued by certificate program graduates include the Project Management Professional (PMP) and the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM).

Indiana has a limited number of not-for-profit schools that offer a certificate program in project management. Most colleges and universities in the state that offer a project management certificate or degree program are for-profit institutions. However, there are a few public schools, such as Ivy Tech Community College, that offer standalone non-credit courses designed to prepare students to sit for the PMI's PMP exam.

Indiana University - Bloomington

Indiana University's Bloomington location has one certificate program in project management offered through the university's Kelly School of Business, which is an official education provider for the PMI. The graduate-level program is designed for business and technical managers as well as project team members looking to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to further their careers. Students learn through in-class instruction, online courses and video conferencing. Course topics include innovation, risk, conflict negotiation and leadership. All 12 of the credits earned through the program may be applied toward the university's MBA program. The program typically takes one year to complete and prepares students to take the PMP and the Program Management Professional (PgMP) certification exams.

Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IU-PUI)

Located in Indianapolis, IU-PUI offers prospective students one certificate program in project management. The program consists of five core courses and one elective course. Each core course costs $209, but the price of the elective course varies. Core course topics include communications, planning and risk for complex and short-term projects. The elective course may be chosen from any of the university's non-credit business or computer courses. Students must attend at least 75% of all course sessions to receive the certificate. The entire program takes two semesters to complete and does not directly prepare students to sit for a PMI certification exam.

University of Indianapolis

The University of Indianapolis provides prospective project management students with a specialized graduate certificate program. The program is specifically designed for human services professionals who already hold at least a bachelor's degree. The program is offered exclusively online. Students are taught the practical skills needed to effectively manage projects in any human services or human resources department. This program requires three courses totaling nine credit hours. All of the courses build upon one another and must be taken in sequential order. Topics covered include executing effective projects, monitoring project progress and the initiation and planning of different types of projects. Each course is offered in the fall, winter and summer semesters, respectively. This specialist project management certificate is not directly associated with any of the PMI's official certification exams.
