Founded in 1889 with the goal of training teachers, Slippery Rock University's first president was James E. Morrow, grandfather of Anne Morrow Lindbergh. In 1926, the school became a 4-year teacher's college and in 1960 began awarding graduate degrees along with their undergraduate degrees in liberal arts and the professions. The Princeton Review rates Slippery Rock University as one of the 'Mid-Atlantic Great Schools to Consider'. Located 20 miles from Pulaski, PA, on 600 acres, Slippery Rock has one of western Pennsylvania's largest campuses. Comprised of four colleges distributed through 48 buildings, the university stresses instruction in certain areas, including arts and sciences, health and human services, computer and information sciences, environmental sciences, business, communications and teacher education. Students are presented with the opportunity to earn career certificates, bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees, as well as postbaccalaureate and post-masters certificates.

Community College of Beaver County - Monaca, Pennsylvania

From a humble beginning in 1966, when the college opened using 17 vacant store fronts and the second floor of the bank building in Freedom, PA, the Community College of Beaver County (CCBC) developed to the point where it was able to establish a campus in Center Township in the Borough of Monaca in 1971. Students have the opportunity to pursue programs leading to certificates and associate degrees in areas that include business, computer information sciences, criminal justice, culinary arts, education, liberal arts, health care and visual communications. One distinction of this community college is that it also offers certificate and degree programs in aviation sciences. Interested individuals specialize in aerospace management, air traffic control or piloting. In addition to advanced computer access and top-of-the-line simulators, CCBC also boasts the only on-site college air traffic control tower in the United States.

Grove City College - Grove City, Pennsylvania

Established 19 miles from Pulaski, PA, in 1876 and affiliated with the Presbyterian Church, Grove City College confers only bachelor's degrees. In addition to courses in a major, such as accounting, electrical engineering, physics, history, English, religion, fine arts or pre-professional areas, all students are required to complete 38 to 50 credit hours of general education courses. Along with being rated by U.S. News and World Reports as one of the nation's 'Best Liberal Arts Colleges', Grove City was one of four colleges in Pennsylvania to be ranked by The Princeton Review as one of 100 'Best Value Colleges' in the nation. The Intercollegiate Studies Institute named Grove City one of 50 'All-American Colleges' and rated it as fourth in the United States in the category of civic literacy.
