University of Cincinnati's Radiology Programs
The University of Cincinnati has a long history of training medical workers. The school was originally founded in 1819 as a medical college for Cincinnati residents. It joined the University System of Ohio in 1977. The school states that its mission is to aid the citizens of Cincinnati and Ohio in their efforts to obtain an advanced education and new skills.
Associate of Applied Science in Radiologic Technology
This is a full-time, 2-year program that includes general education classes, like English and social science, and radiology courses including radiographic pathology and basic radiologic technology. Additionally, students take classes in anatomy and physiology and emergency first response. A clinical practicum is also part of the curriculum.
Students learn to properly position the patient and monitor his or her condition while using imaging equipment. They develop an understanding of the radiologist's needs and learn how a radiologic technician's skills assist in the diagnosis and treatment of injury or illness. Successfully completing the associate's degree qualifies students for the certification exam offered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
