With an enrolled student body of over 28,000, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) is the flagship educational institution in the state's university system. It offers over 250 bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree programs. The division of radiologic sciences within the UNC Department of Allied Health Sciences has three radiology programs.
Certificate in Radiography
Coursework in the 20-month certificate program in radiography covers equipment basics, human anatomy, medical terminology, patient care and imaging techniques. The clinical observation requirement is offered in collaboration with University of North Carolina Healthcare, Duke University Medical Center and Alamance Regional Medical Center. Students who complete the program are prepared to work as radiographers.
Bachelor of Science in Medical Imaging
In order to keep current with rapid advances in the imaging field, the bachelor's degree program in medical imaging covers computerized tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, x-rays, healthcare public policy, research methodology and issues in radiologic practice. A clinical internship is required. Graduates of the program may be eligible to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification exam.
