Real estate appraisal, also called property or land valuation, is the process of making an educated opinion on the value of a certain piece of property. Appraisers consider many factors in this process, including the location and condition of the property. In most cases, real estate appraisal positions require candidates to hold a certificate or a license.
Where Can I Take Real Estate Appraisal Classes in Florida?
Miami Dade College: Registered Trainee Appraisal
Miami Dade College, the largest real estate appraiser education site, offers a stand-alone course on real estate appraisal. This course is offered in two 4-credit courses consisting of classroom education and real experience. The 100-hour registered trainee appraiser course is taught in the evening. Some of the topics covered in this Florida real estate appraisal education class include the roles of appraisal trainees and supervisors, the procedures of appraisals and residential appraisal reports. The course also covers different techniques to appraise real estate.
In order to take this course, students must either take a prerequisite course at the school or have a valid real estate sales person license. Once the student passes the first class, he or she can take the second class, which functions as an internship and allows students to actually perform some appraisals of their own. After successfully passing both courses, the student is prepared to take the Certified Real Estate Appraisers state exams and become a licensed appraiser.

University of Florida: Finance, Insurance and Real Estate
The University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, offers real estate appraisal education classes through its undergraduate and graduate programs of the Warrington College of Business Administration (WCBA). Students can minor in real estate, where they need to complete courses in the legal environment of business, principles of macro- or microeconomics, real estate investment decision-making and real estate analysis. Students can also return to the school and earn their Master of Science in Real Estate (MSRE).
The graduate degree program is a 10-month program which includes mentoring by members of the Real Estate Advisory Board of the Bergstrom Center and peer training from alumni of the program. The MSRE program includes an education in the software and database systems needed for real estate, and many graduates have been able to find jobs shortly after graduation. The courses in finance, insurance and real estate cover topics that include property valuation methods, comparable sales analysis, income capitalization and cost-depreciation analysis. All students are required to write professional real estate appraisal reports for course completion.

University of Central Florida: Certificate in Real Estate Appraisal
The University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida, offers a stand-alone certificate program in real estate appraisal. Courses in this certificate program include appraisal and valuation, fundamentals of real estate, real estate law and professional selling. These classes end with a 3-hour internship that involves conducting actual real estate appraisals. A graduates of the certificate program meets the academic requirements to sit for the real estate appraiser's license in Florida.
The Dr. P. Phillips School of Real Estate also offers a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) in Real Estate to those interested in estate investments, banking, finance, development, brokerage, appraisal, property management and other such related fields. In order to be allowed to sit for the licensing exam, the student must take 15 hours of classes, including fundamentals of real estate, professional selling and real estate appraisal and valuation. They must also complete an internship.
