Essential Information

Registered nurse (RN) classes are typically offered through degree programs in nursing, which are available at the associate's, bachelor's and master's degree levels. RN classes prepare students to meet the needs of patients in doctor's offices, hospitals, hospices and nursing homes. Programs combine classroom study with practical training in simulated and real-world health care settings to prepare students to pass the certification exam required for registered nurses in all states.

Nursing students learn about patient care and monitoring, administering medications, operating medical equipment and working in health care settings. Workplace safety, disease prevention pharmacology and grief counseling are a few of the subjects encountered in registered nursing classes. A clinical rotation course is also required in most RN programs.
