Comparison of San Diego Barbering Schools

Currently, barbering programs in San Diego are only available at for-profit schools. However, the schools discussed in this article have been approved by the CA Board of Barbering and Cosmetology and qualify graduates for licensure. Both the Marinello School of Beauty and the Tramy Beauty School are less-than-two-year schools with locations in San Diego. Individuals who aren't interested in or close to either school may want to look into completing an apprenticeship program, since this is another way to become a barber in California.

Program at Marinello School of Beauty

Students at Marinello are taught by licensed state board specialists and learn job search techniques. The school has quarterly competitions and gives students opportunities to work at various special events, including beauty pageants, photo shoots and fashion shows.

Barbering Career Training

Some of the topics barbering students learn about include hairstyling, hair coloring, facial massage and salon management. Other courses include rest facials, hair weaving, hair processing, hazardous substances and sales techniques. Graduates of the program have obtained jobs as platform artists, barber shop managers/owners and coloring specialists. Once they've completed the program, graduates can test for CA state licensure.
