About 35 colleges and schools are located in the San Dimas area, and students have the option of enrolling in several types of institutions, including public universities, private schools and community colleges. The three traditional schools with the most program variety in the area, listed below, had approximately 76-130 programs. The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) lists the most popular programs for each school from 2011-2012, based on awards conferred.

1- Mt. San Antonio College

Located in Walnut, Mt. San Antonio College sits six miles from San Dimas and offers about 130 certificates and associate degrees. The 2-year school features programs in the arts, business, humanities, kinesiology, natural sciences, library studies and health. Fire prevention and safety was the most popular certificate program, while social sciences was the most popular associate degree field of study.

2- California State Polytechnic University - Pomona

California State Polytechnic University - Pomona is based three miles from San Dimas and offers about 87 bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees. Students can pursue programs in agriculture, business administration, education, engineering, arts and social sciences, environmental design, hospitality management and science. U.S. News & World Report ranked the university as the #34 regional university in the West in 2013. The business administration bachelor's degree program was the most popular program at the school.

3- University of La Verne

The University of La Verne is located three miles from San Dimas and offers approximately 76 undergraduate and graduate programs. These programs are offered through the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business and Public Management, College of Education and Organizational Leadership and College of Law. This private school was ranked #165 among national universities in 2013, according to U.S. News & World Report. Business administration and management was the most popular field of study for students in bachelor's and master's degree programs.

Lowest Net Price

NCES reported financial aid statistics and net price for schools in the San Dimas area from 2011-2012; the organization also listed the tuition and fees from 2012-2013. While net prices for many public and private, non-profit schools in the area started at $12,000 up to $30,000, the net prices for the three lowest traditional schools in the area ranged from about $3,000-$10,000. The net price is a result of taking the cost of attendance for in-district or in-state students and then subtracting any institutional or government aid. The traditional schools with the lowest net price are listed below.

1- Citrus College

Located in Glendora, Citrus College offers certificate and associate degree programs to about 12,000 students. The net price at this 2-year community college was $3,440. Tuition and fees for in-state students totaled $1,138; out-of-state students paid $5,242. Among first-year students, 62% received some type of financial aid, while 57% of the student body was awarded grant or scholarship aid, which averaged out to $2,777 per student.

2- Mt. San Antonio College

Mt. San Antonio College makes a second appearance in the rankings with a net price of $5,021. Students from California paid $1,164 in tuition and fees, while out-of-state students paid $6,060. Financial aid was given to 69% of beginning students, who received an average of $4,461 in grant and scholarship aid and $3,497 in loans. In addition, 62% of all undergraduate students received grant or scholarship aid, which averaged $2,976 per student.

3- California State Polytechnic University - Pomona

California State Polytechnic University - Pomona also makes a second appearance in this article with a net price of $9,707. In-state tuition and fees totaled $6,125, and out-of-state tuition and fees totaled $17,783. For first-year students, 69% used some type of financial aid. Just over 50% of all students were awarded grant or scholarship aid, and 38% received federal student loans.

Highest Graduation Rates

Near San Dimas, graduation rates for traditional schools, reported by NCES, spanned a broad range from 25% up to nearly 100%. The overall graduation rates for the top traditional schools in the area, listed below, ranged from 88%-95%, according to NCES. These were all 4-year, private, not-for-profit schools, and figures are for students who enrolled at the colleges in 2005. Students who were reflected in these rates were pursuing bachelor's degrees and earned their degrees within 150% of normal graduation time, which is six years.

1- Pomona College

Located about six miles from San Dimas, in Claremont, Pomona College had an overall graduation rate of 95%, and 91% of students attempting to earn a bachelor's degree earned the degree in four years. NCES reported that the retention rate at the college was 99% in 2011. U.S. News & World Report ranked Pomona as the #4 national liberal arts college in 2013.

2- Claremont McKenna College

Claremont McKenna College, also in Claremont, had the second highest graduation rate in the area at 91%. Among students who started in 2005, 85% of those pursuing bachelor's degrees earned a degree in four years. According to NCES, the retention rate for full-time students was 96% in 2011.The college was ranked as the #10 national liberal arts college in 2013 by U.S. News & World Report.

3- Scripps College

Scripps College is also based in Claremont and offers about 54 bachelor's degree and postgraduate certificate programs. The college had an overall graduation rate of 88%, and 83% of students pursuing a bachelor's degree earned the degree in four years. U.S. News & World Report ranked the school as the #24 national liberal arts college in 2013. The retention rate for full-time students was 90% in 2011, according to NCES.

Lowest Student-Faculty Ratio

The student-faculty ratios for traditional schools in the San Dimas area ranged from about 8:1 to 33:1 in 2011, according to NCES. Additionally, NCES reported the student population and number of faculty members for each school. The three schools with the lowest student-faculty ratios in this area are listed below.

1- Pomona College

Pomona College tied for the lowest student-faculty ratio in the area at 8:1. Nearly 70% of classes had fewer than 20 students, and about 29% had 20-49 students, according to U.S. News & World Report. Roughly 1,600 students attended the college, and 200 full-time faculty members were employed at this school in 2012.

1- Harvey Mudd College

Located in Claremont, Harvey Mudd College sits six miles from San Dimas and also had a student-faculty ratio of 8:1. U.S. News & World Report ranked the school as the #12 national liberal arts college in 2013. About 800 students were enrolled at the school, and almost 90 full-time faculty members taught classes in 2012. The school didn't employ any teaching assistants that year.

3- Claremont McKenna College

The student-faculty ratio at Claremont McKenna College was 9:1. Just over 86% of classes had fewer than 20 students, according to U.S. News & World Report. In 2011, the student population at the college was about 1,300, and roughly 150 full-time and 22 part-time faculty members were employed there in 2012.
