Schools and Universities for Microsoft Certification in the U.S.
Microsoft (MS) certification is useful for information technology (IT) professionals and all levels of businessmen and women, from secretaries to business owners. Training in a range of Microsoft applications typically is offered online and through 2-year colleges.
How to Select a School for Microsoft Certification
The first step in selecting a school that teaches Microsoft certification is determining which certification would be most relevant to one's career path. Microsoft offers certification in developer applications and tools, server technologies, security and licensing solutions, as well as Windows, MS Office and MS Dynamics. IT professionals can earn MS certification on a number of servers, including Windows Essential Business Server, Office Project Server and Office SharePoint Server.
Additionally, Microsoft certification students should look for a school that offers an appropriate level of training. Beginners in the field might seek a program in Microsoft's Technical Series, while those with more experience might choose to pursue certification in the Specialist, Professional or Master series. Those who have worked in IT for at least 10 years might be eligible to sit for Microsoft Architect certification in infrastructure, solutions or technology. Architect-level certification programs are unique because coursework and exams aren't required. Instead, candidates design projects to solve problems in business and present those projects to review boards of certified peers.
Students also should consider the amount of time they're willing to commit to their studies. For example, earning certification as a Microsoft Certified Application Specialist (MCAS) might substantially reduce training time since students become proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, MS PowerPoint and MS Outlook.
