Nearly every college and university throughout the U.S. offers science degrees in some form. These programs are available at the bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree level. Besides science programs in biology or chemistry, some colleges offer training in such areas as atmospheric sciences or animal sciences. 1. Stanford University in California

Founded in 1891, this private university is home to several faculty members who have won Nobel and Pulitzer Prizes. This top university conducts private scientific research, as well as research for government entities, such as the U.S. Department of Energy. In 2010, U.S. News & World Report listed Stanford University as the number one graduate college for biological sciences and the fourth in chemistry. Through Stanford's School of Humanities and Sciences, science students can earn bachelor's, master's and Ph.D. degrees from the physics, biology, applied physics and chemistry departments.

2. University of Illinois at Urbana - Champaign

As of 2010, the University of Illinois at Urbana - Champaign was listed as a Best Midwestern College, as well as a Best Value Public College, by the Princeton Review. The college is home to over 100 research centers, including the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology. Individuals interested in studying science here can look to the environmental sciences college or the liberal arts and sciences college, where they can earn Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts, Master of Science, Ph.D. or Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees.
