Students learn to perform basic facials and apply makeup. Topics such as client consultation and professional ethics may also be covered. Some schools require an introductory cosmetology class before enrolling in more skin care classes.
Techniques for giving facials are explored in this course, with students gaining hands-on experience. While building on the basics learned in introductory classes, students learn to identify the best products and treatments for different skin types. Students also learn to identify skin disorders best treated through facials and other types of skin care. Hands-on experience also includes applying cosmetics to people with various complexions.
Skin History Course
This history course covers various skin care techniques used in the past. Students read about techniques used in different cultures and time periods, as well different definitions of beauty throughout history. How technology has changed and improved skin care and makeup procedures is often explored.
Advanced Care Course
This advanced class builds on the skills learned in an introductory skin care class and introduces more sophisticated practices, such as chemical facials and light treatments. Prospective skin care specialists study skin disorders and sun damage and learn to safely perform chemical treatments.
Exfoliation Treatments Course
