Temple University

Temple University, the largest institution of higher learning in Philadelphia, is a public school about 23 miles from Southampton. While Temple is recognized nationally as a research leader in many disciplines, its art program is particularly noteworthy. Temple's Tyler School of Art offers degrees in drawing, painting, sculpting and photography. In 2008, U.S. News and World Report ranked the painting and drawing program at Tyler as the seventh best U.S. art program. The same year, Tyler's sculpting program earned the eighth spot. Overall, Tyler is the 14th best graduate art program in the U.S., according to U.S. News and World Report. Many art students study Italian masters and enroll in art history courses at the Temple campus in Rome, Italy.

University of Pennsylvania

Commonly known as Penn, the University of Pennsylvania is the only Ivy League school in the state of Pennsylvania and also the largest private university in Philadelphia. Year after year, Penn earns spots at the top of both national and international ranking lists of the best institutions of higher learning. The school placed fourth on the 2009 U.S. News and World Report lists of the best undergraduate and best Ivy League schools. The Wharton School of Business at Penn has one of the top three MBA programs in the United States. Bachelor's, master's and doctorate degree programs are available at Penn in a wide range of academic fields, including engineering, finance, biology and chemistry.

Drexel University

Drexel University is a private school in downtown Philadelphia recognized both for its engineering degrees and co-op program. In 2006, U.S. News and World Report awarded Drexel the 57th spot on its annual list of the top undergraduate engineering programs in the nation. The university also placed 55th on the U.S. News and World Report 2009 list of top graduate schools for engineering. Drexel encourages undergraduate students to complete professional internships prior to graduation and connects them with government offices, corporations, law firms and hospitals around the city. Students may take up to three leaves of absences from Drexel to complete 6-month, paid internships.
