Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA), founded in 1964, is the largest community college in Virginia and the second largest in the country. NOVA maintains campuses in Annandale, Alexandria, Loudoun, Woodbridge, Manassas and a medical education campus in Springfield; additional learning centers are located in Arlington and Reston. NOVA is among the nation's most internationally diverse campuses, with students attending from over 180 countries. More than 160 certificate and associate's degree programs are available in a range of fields, including massage therapy, interior design, engineering, automotive technology, music, paralegal studies, social sciences, veterinary technology, allied health and nursing. The college also offers 200,000 public service activities as well as its Pathway to the Baccalaureate Program, a joint program with several area high schools and George Mason University that assists students in earning a bachelor's degree.

George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia
George Mason University is a 4-year public institution located in Fairfax, approximately nine miles northwest of Springfield, VA. Courses are also offered at two additional campuses in Arlington and Prince Williams as well as atits off-campus site in Loudoun County. George Mason offers over 100 degree and certificate programs, including the nation's largest doctoral program in public policy, a professional law program and interdisciplinary programs, which allow students to build personalized programs of study. Many of George Mason University's programs have received national recognition, including nursing and public administration, management, economics, law, biotechnology and creative writing. Students have access to cultural and artistic events through the university's Center for the Arts, which attracts world-famous artists, musicians and actors to the campus.

Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia
Marymount University is a comprehensive, Catholic university with a 21-acre main campus in Arlington and two off-campus centers also in Arlington and in Reston. The campus features an art gallery, a 1,000-seat sports arena, fitness center, recreational gym and residence halls. Marymount offers certificate, undergraduate and graduate degree programs in a range of fields, including fashion design, criminal justice, forensic psychology and pastoral counseling. Graduate, career-oriented programs include two doctoral degrees in nursing practice and physical therapy, teaching licensure programs, an online master's educational degree in Catholic school leadership, as well as pre-professional programs in law, medicine and physical therapy. Marymount University engages its students both culturally and educationally through community service activities, guest lecturers and internships, which are required for all undergraduate and some graduate degree programs.
