Most Program Variety

When looking at the pros and cons of different colleges, students may want to enroll in a school that offers a wide program variety. The top three schools in the Strongsville area have approximately 84-117 programs. The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) reports the most popular programs for each school from 2011-2012.

1- Cleveland State University

Cleveland State University is located in Cleveland and sits less than 15 miles from Strongsville. The college offers around 117 programs through nine colleges. Programs are available in business, education, engineering, liberal arts, nursing, health professions, urban affairs and law. Psychology and business administration were the most popular bachelor's degrees, while business administration, curriculum and instruction were the most popular master's degrees. Law was the most pursued doctoral degree.

2- Cuyahoga Community College

Located in Cleveland, Cuyahoga Community College has roughly 96 programs. The 2-year, public school is also located about 15 miles from Strongsville and offers transfer opportunities and career training. Of the approximately 2,200 associate's degrees that were awarded, about 860 were in liberal arts and sciences. Other popular programs included registered nursing, medical insurance coding, business administration and early childhood education.

3- Baldwin Wallace University

Baldwin Wallace University was located Berea and is about five miles from Strongsville. Students at the private college can pursue roughly 84 programs. In addition to undergraduate and graduate programs, the school also has a Conservatory of Music and offers pre-professional programs. The most popular bachelor's and master's degrees were in business administration and accounting.

Lowest Net Price

According to the NCES, the net price results from taking the cost of attendance and then subtracting any government or institutional aid. The three schools with the lowest net price in the Strongsville area had net prices of $4,000-$13,000. While the net price is from 2010-2011, the tuition reported by the NCES is from 2012-2013.

1- Cuyahoga Community College

The net price at Cuyahoga Community College was $4,812. In-district students paid a tuition of $2,936, in-state students paid $3,752 and out-of-state students paid $7,268. Seventy-seven percent of all first-year students received some form of financial aid.

2- Medina County Career Center

Medina County Career Center is located in Medina and had a net price of $8,930. Tuition varied depending on the program. The medical assistant program was $5,215, the cosmetology program was $7,650, the criminal justice program was $3,900, and the dental assisting program was $3,821. Over 90% of first-year students received some form of financial aid.

3- Cleveland State University

Cleveland State University had the third lowest net price in the area at $12,768. Tuition for undergraduate students was $9,314 for in-state students and $12,436 for out-of-state students. In-state graduate students paid $9,194, while out-of-state graduate students paid $17,294. Sixty-two percent of all undergraduate students used federal student loans.

Highest Graduation Rates

The schools with the top three graduation rates all had at least 70% of students earn their degree within 150% of normal time. This required that students earned an associate's degree in three years and bachelor's degree in six years. Students reflected in these rates enrolled in 2-year schools in 2008 and 4-year schools in 2005.

1- Polaris Career Center

Located in Middleburg Heights, Polaris Career Center had a graduation rate of 92%. The NCES also reported that in 2011 the retention rate at the school for full-time students was 97%. Job training at the college was offered in welding, nursing assisting, early child care education, truck driving, dental assisting and more.

2- Medina County Career Center

The graduation rate at Medina County Career Center was 75%, which made it second highest in the area. The retention rate at the college was 77%, according to the NCES in 2011.

3- Baldwin Wallace University

Baldwin Wallace University had a graduation rate of 70%; however, 52% of students earned a bachelor's degree in four years. The NCES reported that the retention rate at the school was 81% for full-time students in 2011.

Lowest Student-Faculty Ratio

The student-faculty ratio at a college could be a strong indicator of class size. Most colleges in the Strongsville area have student-faculty ratios of 15:1 to 21:1, according to the NCES.

1- Cleveland State University

Cleveland State University had a student-faculty ratio of 15:1. Over 17,000 students attended the school, and 11,500 of those students were undergraduates. U.S. News and World Report showed that about 25% of classes featured less than 20 students and 12% had 50 or more. Approximately 525 full-time faculty members worked at the school.

1- Baldwin Wallace University

Baldwin Wallace University also had a student-faculty ratio of 15:1. Just over 3,500 undergraduates attended the school, along with roughly 650 graduate students. Over 160 full-time and about 200 part-time faculty members worked at the university.

1- Medina County Career Center

Medina County Career Center was the third school in the area with a student-faculty ratio of 15:1. Almost 95 students attended the college, and five full-time faculty members were employed by the school.
