Essential Information

In Georgia, students interested in surgical technology can find undergraduate diploma and associate degree programs. Diploma programs focus exclusively on career training and range from 60-65 credit hours, while associate degree programs, which add on general education courses, require completion of 73-76 credits. Students participate in labs, lectures and clinical experiences, and courses cover such topics as surgical instruments and supplies, drug administration and pharmacology, surgical procedures and surgical microbiology.

Applicants may need to pass a college assessment and the Health Occupations Aptitude Examination or Health Occupations Basic Entrance Test (HOBET). They may also need to attend an orientation session and have completed certain prerequisite courses. Some programs may have a selective admissions process.
