Students of this program learn duties applicable to operating rooms and doctor's offices, including safety and care of patients, aseptic techniques and emergency surgical techniques. The program also covers basic sciences, surgical equipment preparation and medical technology. Students also work in live surgical situations in preparation to share in the responsibility of the operating room team during surgery.
Upon completion of the curriculum, students can sit for the National Certifying Examination for Surgical Technologists in order to become a certified surgical technologist (CST).
