Essential Information

In Texas, individuals interested in principal certification can look to various public universities that offer Master of Education programs with focuses in principalship, educational leadership or educational administration. Students who already possess a master's degree can pursue graduate-level programs designed only to prepare them for principal certification. Applicants to certification-only programs typically need 1-2 years of educational experience and a current teaching certification. Certification-only programs may be completed in one year, while master's degree programs can take 2-3 years to complete. Additionally, internships are often required of students in either program.
