Top Television Production Graduate Schools in the USA

1. University of Southern California in Los Angeles

The University of Southern California (USC) was ranked among the top 30 schools in the nation in 2010 by U.S. News and World Report. Because of its location in L.A., USC is a popular school among students interested in television production.

The university's School of Cinematic Arts offers a Master of Fine Arts in Film and Television Production. The program, which is usually completed in three years, includes courses in television directing, news writing, cinematic communication, film and television acting, television station management and television documentary production. In addition to classroom courses, students learn television production skills through hands-on production projects with film and television studios.

2. University of Texas at Austin

The University of Texas at Austin was named in 2010 as one of the top 15 public schools in the country by U.S. News and World Report. The university's Department of Radio-Television-Film offers a 3-year Master of Fine Arts in Film and Media Production. The program allows students to film, produce, and edit films and documentaries through courses in television writing, alternative media, production techniques, and reception studies. In the third year, students demonstrate their proficiency in film and television production with a comprehensive thesis project.
