Graduate programs in nutrition are offered at the master's degree level, often as a Master of Science (M.S.) or Master of Public Health (MPH), and at the doctoral level. Top Graduate Programs for Nutrition

1. Hunter College of the City University of New York in New York, NY

As of 2011, this public research college was listed as the 39th-best master's-degree-granting university in the North, according to U.S. News and World Report; in the same year, Princeton Review ranked it a 'Best Northeastern College,' as well as a 'Top Ten Best Value Public College.' Through the School of Public Health, individuals interested in becoming registered dietitians (RDs) can pursue graduate training through the M.S. in Nutrition program. The nutrition graduate programs, which have an emphasis on urban public health, also include a non-registered dietitian track via the MPH in Nutrition program.

2. University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill, NC

This top university is the oldest public state university in the U.S., which first opened its doors in 1789. Known as one of the U.S.'s leading public schools, UNC at Chapel Hill was named a 2011 'Best Southeastern College' and 'Top Ten Best Value Public College' by the Princeton Review and was ranked the fifth-best public school among U.S. News and World Report's top 30 national colleges in 2011. At the Gillings School of Global Public Health, students can earn a MPH in Nutrition, which offers an educational path for aspiring RDs, another for working RDs and an additional track for physicians or medical students. 3. University of Wisconsin - Madison

A Big Ten university, the University of Wisconsin - Madison is a large research university highly placed in U.S. News and World Report's 2011 National Universities list. That publication ranked the school 45th, making it one of the top-ranked public universities in the U.S. The Department of Nutritional Sciences offers M.S. and Ph.D. programs to its graduate students in the Interdepartmental Graduate Program in Nutritional Sciences (IGPNS).
