Ranked by the Princeton Review as a 2010 Best Northeastern College, as well as a 2010 Best Value Private College, this school offers over 40 Ph.D. degrees as well as joint Ph.D. and medicine or law degrees. While the university was founded in 1746, graduate degrees were not granted until 1879, and the graduate school was not opened until 1900. Princeton University is known as a top research school in the U.S., and was recently awarded nearly $25 million dollars for research funding as part of the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Since then, research has begun on projects ranging from mathematics to energy.
