1. Washington University in Saint Louis, MO
This private research university was ranked as the 13th-best college in the United States by U.S. News & World Report in 2011. What's more, in 2008, Washington University in St. Louis was listed as having the number one social work program in the U.S. Through the George Warren Brown School of Social Work, students can pursue the accredited MSW program; the school also offers a Ph.D. in Social Work, as well as a dual MSW/Master of Public Health (MPH) degree. Social work master's degree students can focus on six concentrations, including economic and social development; families, children and youth; management; mental health; general health or gerontology.
2. University of Michigan - Ann Arbor
In 2011, U.S. News and World Report ranked the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor as the 29th-best university in the U.S., making it one of the top public schools in the country. Similarly, its School of Social Work is well-regarded, having ranked second in the nation in 2008. Degrees in social work are available in three forms to students: as an undergraduate minor, a Master of Social Work (MSW) and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Social Work. Nine concentrations are available, and they're separated into two categories. Founded in 1785, this top-rated university has grown to four campuses, and it consists of 16 colleges and professional schools. In 2011, the University of Georgia was ranked as one of the top 20 public universities in the nation by U.S. News and World Report, and that same year, it was ranked as a Best Southeastern College, as well as placing fifth on the Princeton Review's Best Value Public College list. The School of Social Work at the University of Georgia offers accredited curricula leading to a BSW or a traditional MSW. Additionally, this top-rated social work school offers a Ph.D. in Social Work, a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Nonprofit Organizations and a combined MSW/Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree. Several additional projects are underway with the school, such as Burn Camp, in which students work with children who've suffered burn injuries in partnership with the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation.
