Trade Schools in New York with Program Overviews

Baking and Pastry Arts Certificate
This certificate program includes 120 hours of field experience in a commercial bakery that corresponds to the career goals of the student. Over two semesters, adult students take beginning, intermediate and advanced baking courses in which they prepare standard and specialty items, including breakfast pastries, brioche, tortes and breads.
Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Precision Machining Certificate
Graduates of this certificate program find employment in manufacturing and small precision machining companies as CNC machinists, mold makers, die makers and technicians. This 24-unit program includes courses in lathe programming and operation, CNC mill programming, CNC mill operation, graphic communications and industrial inspection.
Associate in Applied Science in Architectural and Construction Technology
The emphasis of this program is commercial and residential architectural graphic representation with several core courses dedicated to computer-aided drafting, design and modeling. Additional areas of study include architectural codes, physics, methods and materials, technical math and mechanics.
Associate in Applied Science in Automotive Technology
The associate's degree curriculum combines liberal arts courses with core automotive technology courses, including manual transmissions and transaxles, engines and electrical systems. Automotive technology students have the opportunity to participate in Chrysler and Ford training programs where they work in dealership service departments during the program.
Associate in Occupational Studies in Building Management and Maintenance
Facilities management requires training in the building trades as well as management skills and business knowledge. In addition to management, maintenance and cost-estimating coursework, this 2-year program includes courses in plumbing, electrical systems, heating systems and energy management.

Alfred State College's Trade School Programs
Alfred State College in Allegheny County, New York, grants bachelor's degrees, associate's degrees and certificates in over 60 fields of study. Two campuses in Alfred and nearby Wellsville serve about 3,000 students. The School of Applied Technology offers several programs in the trades which lead to an Associate in Occupational Studies (AOS) degrees.
Associate in Occupational Studies in Air Conditioning and Heating Technology
Hands-on experience under the supervision of active tradesmen is emphasized in this lab-intensive HVAC program. In preparation for national HVAC competency tests, students complete a curriculum that includes heat loss and heat gain, air conditioning components and residential duct system design.
Associate in Occupational Studies in Automotive Service Technician
Students explore all aspects of automotive technology through intensive, hands-on practice with foreign and domestic cars. Those who complete the 2-year program have the option of continuing for a third year of study to earn a second degree in truck and diesel technician, motorsports technology or heavy equipment.
Associate in Occupational Studies in Building Construction
Classroom instruction is blended with field experience in carpentry and masonry projects that emphasize blueprint reading, cost estimating, material selection, surveying and job safety. The 2-year program includes the option to take several electives in historic preservation.
Associate in Occupational Studies in Culinary Arts
Summer employment in the food industry is required in this 2-year program that includes courses in nutrition, menu planning, cost control, beverages and catering. In labs that precede and follow classroom instruction, students prepare daily campus menu items.
