Sonographers working in Kansas are not required to earn state licensure. However, employees may give a preference to those who have gained professional certification from a recognized organization. These organizations include the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) and Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI). Graduation from a program in ultrasound or sonography is generally required. The 5 schools offering programs are profiled below.
Fort Hays State University
Fort Hays State University in Hays offers a Bachelor of Science in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) program that includes an ultrasound tract. Students in the track take a 21-month sequence of specialized courses. This is followed by 12 months of clinical training. Participants have the option of earning a Certificate of Completion by completing just the 21-month program, or they can complete the 4-year program to earn the bachelor's degree.
