List of Universities Offering Masters Degree Programs
Master's degree programs are offered at most colleges and universities and are available in almost any academic discipline or field. When choosing a university that offers master's degree programs, students consider the course type and schedule, available disciplines, research opportunities and cost.
How to Select a University with a Master's Degree Program
The first factor most students look at when selecting a university with a master's degree program is the available fields of study. Not all schools offer every academic discipline, and students need to make sure that their area of interest is included. Examples of master's degree programs that aren't available at all universities include aerospace engineering, non-profit studies, anthropology and dance.
Students also take into account a school's scheduling and availability of courses since they already hold a bachelor's degree, have work experience or are currently employed. Because they are older than undergraduates, students entering master's degree programs may have more responsibilities, such as full-time jobs or families. Flexible class schedules and options, including night, weekend or online courses, are often attractive to master's degree students.
Many graduate students are also concerned about available research opportunities. While this is especially true of science fields, such as computer science, biology and chemistry, original research is conducted in many other master's degree programs, including women's studies, linguistics and psychology. A university's facilities, faculty and other research opportunities often influence students' choices of master's degree programs.
Cost is an additional consideration for many students seeking master's degrees. A university's ability to financially support students impacts a student's choice of school. Many universities and programs offer teaching positions, assistantships, scholarships and grants to students in master's degree programs.
