Best U.S. Schools for Veterinary Technician Programs

1. Michigan State University in East Lansing

MSU is one of only about 20 4-year schools to offer a veterinary technician program accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). In 2010, U.S. News and World Report ranked MSU 71st among the best national universities, making it the highest-ranked school to offer a veterinary technician program. The College of Veterinary Medicine at MSU offers a Certificate of Completion in Veterinary Technology and a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Veterinary Technology.

2. University of Nebraska - Lincoln

Ranked 96th among the best colleges in 2010, UNL is the second-highest ranked national school to offer a veterinary technician program. The School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at UNL offers a BS in Veterinary Technology. This undergraduate program is designed for students who have already earned an associate's degree in veterinary technology from an AVMA-accredited school. In two years, students can complete the BS requirements at UNL and earn a bachelor's degree.
