Yale University is located in New Haven, Connecticut approximately 35 miles south of Hartford. The most popular majors among undergrads are history, political science and government, economics, English and literature and psychology. Yale University offers bachelors, masters and doctoral level degree programs.

Ivy League member Yale University is a private, independent institution located in the urban community of New Haven. In addition to being the nation's third-oldest university, Yale is ranked #3rd in the 2008 America's Best Colleges report created by U.S. News and World Report. The engineering program also takes top honors with a #37 ranking.

Yale offers bachelor's, master's and doctorate degrees, as well as pre-professional degrees in law and medicine. The most popular majors on campus are history, political science and government, economics, English and literature, and psychology.

Yale University continues to be influential in American politics, as evidenced by the fact that a Yale alumnus has been a part of every presidential contest since 1972. In addition to its superior reputation in the humanities and social sciences, Yale is a prestigious scientific research university. The university is also extensively involved in international studies, offering over 50 foreign languages and more than 600 courses related to international affairs.

Yale College, the undergraduate school, is considered the heart of the university with more than 2,000 course offerings by over 65 departments and programs. In addition, Yale University is home to 10 professional schools, including law, management, medicine, engineering, drama and architecture.

Yale students can participate in over 500 registered student organizations, including student newspaper projects like the Yale Daily News, the Yale Herald, Yale Economic Review and Yale Scientific. Also noteworthy is the university library system, which is America's third-largest library.

Students who want to attend Yale compete in a 'most selective' admission process. Only nine percent of applicants are accepted. The typical accepted student has SAT test scores between 1,390 and 1,580 or ACT test scores between 29 and 34.

Students at Yale also enjoy small classes. The student-to-faculty ratio at Yale is just 6:1.
