Students in the state of Colorado have about 50 public and private not-for-profit schools to choose from. Out of those options, there are just over 10 schools in this state that have welding programs available. These community colleges offer 1-2 year certificate and/or 2-year associate's degree programs in general welding as well as a specialty areas like pipe welding, fabrication and gas tungsten arc welding. To accommodate schedules, programs may be offered in the day or evening. Students may need to purchase their own equipment in order to participate in the practical courses. Aims Community College

Aims Community College is in Greeley and offers an Associate of Applied Science in Welding Technology. This is a 2-year program that requires at least 60 credit hours to complete. Welding courses here cover issues like safety, joining processes and special topics. Students who're looking for a certificate have numerous options in areas like GMAW, SMAW and FCAW. There are also certificates for basic welding and cutting, advanced welding processes, welding technicians and welding for educators. The majority of those certificates only take a single semester to complete aside for the welding technician certificate, which is a 4 semester program.

Colorado Mountain College

With a main campus in Glenwood Springs, Colorado Mountain College offers several welding certificate programs at different campuses. At the Rifle campus, students can take the following courses to earn the basic welding and cutting certificate: safety for welders, basic shielded metal arc welding and oxyacetylene joining processes. To pursue the pipe welding certificate, students have to attend the West Garfield campus. This certificate program is a total of 8 credits split into 2 courses on pipe welding.

The length of these certificate programs vary from 17 credit hours to 53 credit hours depending on which one is pursued. Students who want to earn an Associate of Applied Science in Fabrication Welding need to complete the school's 65 credit coursework. The curriculum for this program goes over pipe welding, gas metal arc welding, advanced gas tungsten arc welding and blueprint reading.

Emily Griffith Technical College is in the Denver area and offers entry level, advanced level and expert level welding certificates. Located in Westminster, Front Range Community College has a welding technology major that results in an Associate of Applied Science degree. The major requirements for the program consist of 45 credits while the general education portion of the program is 16 credits. Students in the program study allied cutting processes, basic shielded metal arc, layout and fabrication and manufacturing teamwork and communication. Students who just want to major in a specific aspect of welding can find certificate programs for welding fundamentals, shielded metal arc welding, pipe code welding, sculptural welding, gas tungsten arc welding, gas metal arc welding and oxyacetylene welding. There is also a certificate program in comprehensive welding.
