Where Can I Take Cooking Classes in New Hampshire (NH)
Several institutions offer cooking classes in New Hampshire. Among these schools are Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) in Manchester and Lakes Region Community College in Laconia, NH. Each provides cooking classes as part of a 2-year degree program in culinary arts. They also both offer cooking classes through shorter, more specialized certificate programs. But only SNHU offers a bachelor's degree program in culinary arts.
Southern New Hampshire University's Cooking Programs
Established in 1983, SNHU serves about 7,000 students per year who can choose from 60 undergraduate and graduate degree programs. The American Culinary Federation Educational Institute accredits the culinary program.
Pupils study cooking topics, such as meat and sauce preparation, cooking technology and terminology, baking, sanitation, safety procedures and production costs. Classes are transferable to the associate's degree program.
This certificate program is almost identical to the one for cooking. It includes an introductory baking class, which covers cake decoration, pastry fillings and products made of dough. Other classes include advanced baking and sanitation.
Associate of Science in Culinary Arts
Enrollees explore Italian cuisine, regional American cuisine, nutritional cooking and classical cooking - among other topics. Other classes cover restaurant and dining-room management. To complete internship requirements, pupils work in the on-campus restaurant.
Bachelor of Science in Culinary Management
In addition to classes available at the associate's degree level, topics cover business, accounting and consumer behavior. In other classes, majors learn to cut meat, bake for special dietary needs, cook without using a recipe, prepare alcoholic beverages, decorate cakes and manage catering operations.
Lakes Region Community College's Cooking Programs
Lakes Region Community College, founded in 1967, is located in the middle of New Hampshire near Lake Winnipesauke. Approximately 1,100 students attend every year.
Baking and Pastry Certificate
This 16-credit-hour program trains pupils in the creation of breads, rolls, hot and cold desserts, muffins, donuts and pastries. These individuals gain hands-on cooking experience by completing 16-22 lab hours.
Restaurant Management Certificate
Classes in bartending, product costs, banquet and dining room management and marketing are included in this 28-credit program. Enrollees study international cuisine and learn to prepare pastas, meats, salads, appetizers and other restaurants staples.
Institutional Food Service Certificate
Participants explore methods for catering special events through classes in scheduling, client rapport, diet-sensitive cooking, nutrition, management and other topics. A rotation in a restaurant or other hospitality site is required for completion.
Associate of Science in Culinary Arts
Learners train through classes in culinary terminology, sauce preparation, ethnic cuisine and cooking methodology. They prepare a wide range of breads, desserts and nutritious foods using techniques in baking, grilling and steaming.
