Associate of Applied Science in Radiography Technology
This 2-year program, which includes summers, provides students with an advanced understanding of radiography. Courses include human anatomy and physiology, science and radiography basics, patient care management, radiographic imaging principles, computer information systems and radiographic imaging equipment. General education classes, such as psychology, sociology, composition, humanities, history and algebra, are also included.
In addition to coursework, participants are assigned to a local clinic or hospital to gain supervised hands-on experience working with the equipment. Students are also expected to participate in multiple practicum experiences. In the final semester of the program, learners attend a radiologic technology seminar.
Upon completion of the program, students can take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification exams. After passing the exam, graduates can pursue licensure through the Texas Department of State Health Services to practice as x-ray technicians in Texas.
