Helping Military Members Earn a College Degree
Serving in the military is such a well-respected profession in its own right. Those who choose to serve may use their experiences and skills as a pathway to a career or for a life full of service. Many service members leaving the armed forces look to pursue a higher education to pave the way toward a career in such areas as geoscience, finance, or biology. There are unique challenges military members face when it comes to earning a degree, but earning CLEP credit can help get them there by giving service members a jump start on college credits to help them earn their degree faster. The government also offers funding for CLEP exams for military members through the Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES). For active servicemembers and veterans looking to pursue a college degree, it's important to do your research and seek out college information specific to military members. There are a lot of resources available to you, so be sure to explore them all.
One of the most difficult hurdles to earning a degree is how to finance your education. Fortunately, there are numerous resources available for active servicemembers and veterans looking to get started working towards their degree, including understanding military benefits, FAFSA and financial aid, and finding the right program that fits your interests and career goals. If you are looking to transfer CLEP credits to count towards your degree, be sure to explore programs that accept those credits. Earning a degree can be expensive, so it's important to take advantage of the many scholarships available to help you pay for school. There are even scholarships to help members of military families, including spouses and children.
